Photo Notecards

I am literally astounded at the beauty around me, and feel irrepressibly compelled to capture and share this transience. Nothing ever stays the same, but photos can almost capture moments in time- the weight or weightlessness of the air, the song of the birds, the scent of a flower. My method of taking photos is spontaneous and instinctive. I’m not looking for a perfect shot, but one that captures what I am feeling. Some are surprises, and some of the best are when I can’t even see the screen.

Here are the stories or my thoughts behind some of my photocards~

Cherry Trees on the Hill

It was well after sunset, and the bluish glow from the clouds seemed to melt the distances so that the nearby hill blended into the hills beyond.

Willows by the Stream

It was a hot and luscious summer day, and the shade from the willows in the cool water below was beckoning.

A Rose is a Rose

The perfume from this native prairie rose is intoxicating, and the cheery blooms are a happy place for bees and other pollinators ❤

A Treasure of the Woods

This happy little amanita is just one of the treasures that seemingly just start popping up everywhere once you start looking for them 🙂 All it takes is unhurried inquisitiveness. Make sure to look for other fungi, slime molds, lichens, and mosses too. They are endlessly fascinating!

Wintry Wonderland

It was one of those snowstorms where the snow blankets everything in white, accentuating the shapes and silhouettes. All that can be heard is the quiet hush of falling snow. The air smells crisp and clean.

Morning Illumination

Walking back from a morning hike with the dogs, I was enchanted by the rolling fog, and how it hid most of the far hill, creating such beautiful and unexpected lines.

Untitled

These ferns were like an oasis within the woods, appearing out of nowhere. More greens and textures from nature are featured on the back of the card.

Summer Cosmos

I love how this photo came out, especially since I hadn’t been able to see the screen from the sun’s reflection. The silhouette of the tree in the background makes an interesting backdrop for the light airiness of the flowers and foliage.
