November 29, 2023- Taking the plunge

I’m diving in – friends and family have convinced me to do something more with my photographs… so I’m giving it a go with greeting cards…. the first few came back and I could see mistakes and ways to make them better, so I just sent in for the second batch and am now on pins and needles to see how they turn out! I added a little heart logo and on most I decided to write a little something personal, a back story or just thoughts that I had when I was taking the photo, so that it’s not just a photo with nothing behind it.

If I break even, I’ll be thrilled. And if there is any profit, I am unwavering about donating all of it to charity. Taking pictures is a pleasure for me and I never want it to be a business, or else I would lose my love for it. Plus, I will never be a professional photographer. I’ve looked at photography “how-to” books, and I do everything wrong. I can’t follow rules, I just go by instinct. If my photos inspire anyone to get outside or simply to appreciate nature and our world a little bit more, I will be happy.

April 24, 2023: Shagbark Hickory

To be in the presence of a shagbark hickory tree is indescribable. There are no words. Beautiful, wild, and majestic don’t even come close. It’s just as impossible to capture all of it in images. No matter what angle, what focus, how near or far, photos don’t do justice. Some things just have to be experienced to get the full effect – to simply be in the presence of these beauties. Hiking around this little life of mine, knowing I can go visit them whenever I want, knowing they are always there no matter where I am, gives me peace of mind and happiness.

March 2023

It’s been a year since I’ve even thought about this site. Wondering if I should keep it or let it go. I do like seeing all the photos. Moments in time that will never return, but that are saved forever in my heart, and seeing the pictures makes it easier.

Photo of very foggy field, with foggy trees to the right and the sky almost indistinguishable from the ground.

Black & white

black and white of a stark landscape of field and sky with hills in distance

The redwing blackbirds have announced that Spring is around the corner but in the meantime we will have many fluctuations in the weather. Hot, cold, melting, ice, mud, buds, frost. So it goes. Which reminds me of opposites, and starkness. Things will be more or less monochromatic for a while. So, I finally added some pics to the Black & White gallery. Things aren’t always black and white but when they are, they can say so much with their stark beauty.

Queen Anne’s Lace

I love watching the progression of time, and how the beauty evolves. Changes seem so indiscernible if you watch incessantly. But going away for a while, and coming back, there they are.

February 18, 2022

Sometimes I’m amazed by what my phone camera can do. Other times…. so frustrated! Sooooo I’m thinking about taking the plunge and buying a “real” digital camera. After years and years of just using my phone and hearing my husband encourage me to get a real camera since I love taking pictures so much (14,000 in the last year for instance), I think it’s time! I really want to see what better quality photos will look like.

So! Does anyone have any suggestions for an amateur who wants something affordable and straightforward and something that can zoom and focus exactly where I want it to (flower petals, slime molds, raindrops, etc.), and something that can withstand possibly being flung into the stream by accident once in a blue moon (or maybe I should just get a strap?) I would appreciate any insights!!!!! 🙂

February 14, 2022

I really have no idea what I’m doing in WordPress. Steeper learning curve and more time in front of a screen than I want. I don’t know if it’s better to put my photos in posts or galleries and yesterday I ended up deleting most of them 😮 Maybe I’ll get it someday 🙂

In any case, I have added a few more more to Trees, Treasures, and Shadows. I’m hoping to slowly identify the fungi just because they are so fascinating. Below are pics of what I’m pretty sure are what is called Trembling Merulius. If anyone has other info, please let me know! They’re gorgeous.

Trying to figure this whole WordPress thing out. Almost getting there? Maybe? But alas…. it’s much later than I think and if I want to take the dogs for a quick hike before getting ready for work, I best get going…
